                语言研究中的眼动追踪技术研讨班


  浙江大学外国语言文化与国际交流学院(外语学院)语言认知实验室在2018515日召开的语言研究中的眼动追踪技术研讨班。本次培训我们邀请了英国Sussex大学/SR Research公司专家Dr Sam Hutton共同探讨眼动仪技术方面的应用,旨在加强用户之间的学术交流。本次Eyelink工作坊由浙江大学外国语学院院长主持,现场到场人员很多,大家学习热情高涨!感谢浙江大学外国语言文化与国际交流学院(外语学院)的大力支持!

                                                                                     

研讨班日程 

09:00-10:00  Background - theoretical and methodological issues

Language Researchers have been pioneers in the development of eye tracking technology, methodology, and techniques for analysing eye movement data. In this first session I will briefly review the basics of oculomotor control (saccades / fixations / foveal and parafoveal vision), and current theories concerning the role of eye movements in reading. I will also outline why accuracy and precision in eye tracking data are so critically important in psycholinguistic research, and how eye tracking researchers can measure and maximise their data quality.

背景-理论和研究方法问题

语言研究者一直以来都是发展眼动技术和方法,以及数据分析方法的先驱。这部分将简要地回顾一下眼球运动控制的基本知识(如眼跳、注视 、中心凹注视和中心凹旁视觉),以及目前关于眼球运动在阅读中所起作用的理论。然后讲述为什么眼动追踪数据的精度和准确性对于心理语言学是如此重要,以及如何检测和提高眼动数据质量。

Eye Tracking in Reading / Comprehension

In this session I will discuss the dominant eye tracking paradigms used by researchers interested in reading and language comprehension. I will describe standard sentence reading tasks, including detailed discussion of how to derive and interpret standard reading measures such as first fixation duration, regression path duration etc,  and then consider more advanced techniques such as those involving gaze-contingent windows / masks and boundary triggered changes. In Comprehension research, the dominant paradigm is referred to as the "Visual Word Task", and involves presenting participants with images that they view whilst listening to a sentence. The pattern of gaze over time can provide important clues as to how the spoken language is being parsed in real time. I will describe the visual world task in detail, and explore the various approaches to analysis that can be taken.

 

阅读和语言理解研究中的眼动跟踪技术

这部分将讨论对阅读研究感兴趣的研究者所使用的主要的眼动追踪实验范式。首先讲解一个标准的句子阅读任务,包括对如何推导和解释标准的阅读方法进行详细讨论,例如第一个注视点的持续时长、回复路径持续时长等。然后我们将讨论更高级一些的技术,例如加一个移动窗口/移动掩蔽和边界触发变化,以及怎样将这些方法用于阅读研究。 在语言理解研究中,占主导地位的范式被称为“视觉文本任务”,它涉及到被试在听一个句子时所看到的图像。凝视时长部分可以为了解口语是如何被实时解析的提供重要线索。在这里我们将详细描述基本的视觉文本任务,并探索可以采取的各种分析方法。

13:00-14:45: Eye Tracking in Translation Research - EyeLink / Translog-II Integration 

In this session I will demonstrate how to use Translog-II with EyeLink eye trackers for translation research. I will cover both the recording and analysis stages, showing how to set up a task in translog / calibrate and check the eye tracker, and then record data. At the analysis stage I will show how to play back the gaze data in Translog-II and in Data Viewer.

 

翻译研究中的眼动追踪技术-Eyelink与Translog-II共同数据采集

这部分展示如何使用Translog-II与Eyelink眼动仪完成一个简单的翻译研究任务。我们将一起进行数据采集和分析,为被试提供一些实际的经验:演示如何设置一个翻译任务,并使用眼动仪进行校准,然后记录下眼动和按键数据。之后我们将使用Translog-II和Data Viewer呈现和分析眼动和按键数据。

15:00-17:00: Practical Demonstration. 

In this session I will first demonstrate how to implement a simple "moving window" gaze-contingent reading task in Experiment Builder. We will then collect some data with this task, providing attendees with the opportunity to have some practical experience of setting up participants and calibrating them using EyeLink eye trackers, as well as actually recording eye tracking data. We will then use Data Viewer software to visualize the data - using scanpaths / heatmaps / fixation plots, and finally we will analyse the data using fixation and interest area reports.

Attendees are encouraged to ask questions throughout the workshop.

实操

这部分展示如何使用Experiment Builder 软件完成一个简单的移动窗口阅读任务。我们将用这个实验程序收集数据,为参会者提供调整被试、校准定标和记录数据的实操机会。之后使用Data Viewer软件中的扫视路径、热图、注视图等方法呈现眼动数据,最后生成注视报告和兴趣区报告分析数据。
