      2018年5月11日18:30——21:00,北京爱生科贸有限公司在即将在河南工业大学隆重开幕由中国翻译认知研究会主办、河南工业大学外语学院承办的“新时代创新背景下翻译传译认知国际研讨会暨中国翻译认知研究会第三届大会”开幕前夕,举办了Eye Tracking in Translation Research Workshop. 研讨会议内容介绍如下:


Speaker: Dr Sam Hutton, University of Sussex / SR Research Ltd. 

讲者:Sam Hutton博士,英国Sussex大学/SR Research公司

Dr Hutton is Visiting Senior Lecturer in Experimental Psychology at the University of Sussex, and also a consultant for SR Research, the manufacturers of the EyeLink range of eye trackers. He has published over 50 research papers on a wide range of eye tracking topics, and has taught Eye Tracking Workshops across the world.

Sam Hutton博士是英国Sussex大学实验心理学专业的资深讲师和EYELINK眼动仪制造商SR Research公司的顾问。他的研究论文有50多篇,涵盖了眼动追踪研究的各个方面。

 

Invited Expert: Dr. Michael Carl

Dr. Michael Carl is a Professor at Renmin University of China, Beijing at the School of Foreign Languages and Director of the Center for Research and Innovation in Translation and Translation Technology (CRITT). He has studied Computational Linguistics and Communication Sciences in Berlin, Paris and Hong Kong and obtained his PhD degree in Computer Sciences from the Saarland University/Germany in 2001. His current research interest is related to the investigation of human translation processes and interactive machine translation.

特邀专家:Michael Carl教授

Michael Carl博士现为中国人民大学外国语学院教授,任丹麦哥本哈根商学院翻译与翻译技术研究中心主任。他曾在柏林、巴黎、香港研究计算机语言学和通信科学,于2001年获得德国萨尔布吕肯大学的计算机科学博士学位,他的主要研究方向包括翻译过程实证研究、机器翻译与人工智能、人机交互翻译、计算语言学等。

 

Workshop Content研讨班内容:

Background - theoretical and methodological issues: Researchers have used eye tracking technology to inform their understanding of how people read and process language for several decades. The workshop will start with a brief review of the basics of oculomotor control (saccades / fixations / foveal and parafoveal vision), and current theories concerning the role of eye movements in reading. The introduction will also outline how eye tracking can reveal important insights into the cognitive operations involved in translation. 

背景-理论和研究方法问题

研究人员使用眼球跟踪技术来帮助他们理解人们如何阅读和处理语言已经有了几十年时间。在这节课中,我将简要地回顾一下眼动控制的基本知识(如saccades、 fixations 、fovealparafoveal vision),以及目前关于眼球运动在阅读中所起作用的理论。我还将概述怎样运用眼动追踪技术来揭示翻译中的认知活动。

Eye Tracking in Reading / Translation Research: The workshop will then consider some of the dominant eye tracking paradigms used by researchers interested in reading. I will describe standard sentence reading tasks, including detailed discussion of how to derive and interpret standard reading measures such as first fixation duration, regression path duration etc. The workshop will also explain how eye tracking is being used to enhance research into translation.  Finally we will consider more advanced techniques such as those involving gaze-contingent windows / masks and boundary triggered changes, and how they might be applied to translation research. 

阅读和翻译研究中的眼动跟踪

在这节课中,我将讨论对阅读研究感兴趣的研究人员使用的主要的眼动跟踪范例。我将讲述一个标准的句子阅读任务,包括详细讨论如何推导和解释标准的阅读方法,如第一个注视点的持续时长、回复路径持续时长等等,然后将介绍如果应用眼动技术来提供翻译研究。最后我们将讨论更高级一些的技术,例如加一个gaze-contingent 窗/罩和边界触发变化,以及怎样将这些方法用于翻译研究。

 

Eye Tracking and Translog-II Integration: Translog-II is a powerful software tool for translation research, which allows users to compare their data to a large database of previous research. It integrates seamlessly with EyeLink eye trackers, allowing users to report a wide range of metrics. This section of the workshop will include  practical demonstration of how to implement a basic translation research task using Translog-II and EyeLink eye trackers. We will collect some data with this task, providing attendees with the opportunity to have some practical experience of setting up participants and calibrating them using EyeLink eye trackers, as well as actually recording eye tracking data. We will then use Translog-II to visualize and interpret the data.

Attendees are encouraged to ask questions throughout the workshop.

眼动追踪技术与Translog-II整合

Translog-II是一个用于翻译研究的强大软件,用户可以通过它将自己的数据与过往研究的庞大数据库相比较。它与EYELINK系列眼动仪无缝对接,可以输出众多眼动数据。这部分课程我们将展示如何使用Translog-I与Eyelink眼动仪完成一个简单的翻译研究任务。我们将一起进行数据采集,为参与者提供一些实际的经验,让他们有机会调整被试位置,并使用眼动仪校准,同样现场记录下眼动数据。之后我们将使用Translog-II呈现和解释这些眼动数据。
